Sight of an Eagle

Project details

'Sight of an Eagle' explores the spheres and apertures of vision between man and eagle as they engage with each other in a vertical canyon of an obsolete dam in northern Italy. An eagle observatory engages with views upwards, longing for the golden eagle to appear. There are also views outwards towards Longarone and through 365 degree immersive spaces which look up into the reflective balloon. The proposal includes bird observation cabins for overnight stays.

Circulation routes take the visitor along steep paths across the site which offer choreographed viewpoints on several platforms and multiple instances of intimacy. The structure explores a system of interchangeable kinetic hinges, of joints inspired by the lightness of the skeletal form, camouflaged within the surrounding mountainous terrain.

Ideas of vision and perception were sparked through the making of a disobedient pantograph drawing machine which distorted images. These involved tracing light paths, extrusions and intrusions, elongating and delaying the link between action and vision over time.
