Inhabiting the Cosmic Ocean

Project details

Student Leyun (Kitty) Zhu
Programme
Unit UG7
Year 2

Shipwrecks are often considered as one of the most underappreciated and unknown riches of the sea. These historic treasures will be brought to life once more through a museum and archive that locates, excavates, displays and preserves shipwreck fragments to educate people about their historical value. This cagelike building situated in the swampy marshlands of the Big Cypress National Preserve in Florida will hold the memories of these artefacts. Atmospheric tectonics allow the viewer to engage with the shipwrecks as if they are still submerged, whilst a grand central staircase takes visitors up into the centre of the cosmic ocean.
