Anchored on the ancient healing ground of White Springs, Hamilton County, 'The Black Spring Vomitorium' proposes a unique treatment centre that specialises in cleansing visitors' digestive systems through regurgitation. Inspired by the declining ‘Green Corn Ceremony’ of the Seminole tribe of Florida, black tea, brewed from stems and leaves of yaupon holly, is drunk until one regurgitates. This cleansing allows for the consumption of the first harvest of corn that is considered sacred. Through a contemporary lens on America, the project aims to revitalise the concept of cleansing whilst preserving a dying native culture.
